How to Be a Good Christian: A Bold Call to Follow Jesus Fully

A High Calling Worth Everything

There has never been a greater calling than the call to follow Jesus Christ with your whole heart. Not half-hearted faith. Not casual Christianity. Not a belief system you add into your life like a spiritual accessory. No — Jesus calls us to something far deeper, far richer, far more costly and far more glorious.
He calls us to discipleship, to follow Him, to surrender everything, and to love Him above all else.
And here’s the truth that many people miss:

Being a “good Christian” isn’t about being perfect — it’s about being fully devoted.

The Bible doesn’t talk about “average” Christians. It talks about disciples — men and women who walk with God, seek Him, love Him, and live for His glory.
If you want to be a good Christian, you don’t need perfection; You need passion, you need pursuit, you need a heart that beats for Christ.
So let’s walk boldly into what Scripture teaches us about living as a genuine, passionate follower of Jesus.

1. A Good Christian Pursues Jesus Above Everything Else

Jesus didn’t say, “Try me.”
He said, “Follow me” (Matthew 4:19).

He didn’t say, “Fit me into your schedule.”
He said, “Deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow me” (Luke 9:23).

He didn’t say, “Give me a portion of your life.”
He said, “Whoever loses his life for my sake will find it” (Matthew 16:25).

Following Jesus is not a hobby — it’s a surrender.
A good Christian isn’t someone who has it all together. It’s someone whose heart is aimed toward Christ in everything.

Ask boldly:

“Jesus, is there anything in my life that is competing with You?”
A good Christian continually lays down idols — comfort, approval, money, pride, self — and chooses Jesus again and again.

2. A Good Christian Fills Their Mind With the Word of God

The Bible is not optional for the believer. It is oxygen. God’s Word isn’t a religious book on a shelf. It’s the voice of the living God. It’s a sword (Hebrews 4:12). A lamp (Psalm 119:105). A fire in your bones (Jeremiah 20:9). If you want bold faith, you need a steady diet of Scripture. Not as an obligation. Not as a checklist. But as a lifeline.

A passionate Christian doesn’t read the Bible only when life is chaotic. They read it because they can’t imagine living a single day without hearing the voice of God.

Start here:

  • One chapter a day from the Gospels
  • Read until something speaks — then stop and meditate
  • Ask: “Lord, what do You want to change in me?”

3. A Good Christian Prays With Fire and Faith

Prayer is not a whisper into the air. Prayer is a spiritual weapon. Prayer is access to the throne of God. James says:

“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” — James 5:16

Too many Christians treat prayer casually. Bold Christians pray like they expect God to move.
A good Christian prays:

  • Persistently
  • Expectantly
  • Honestly
  • With warfare authority
  • With worship and thanksgiving

Prayer is where battles are won before they are ever seen in the physical.

A prayerless Christian is a powerless Christian.
A praying Christian is a dangerous one — dangerous to the kingdom of darkness.

4. A Good Christian Stands Firm in a Shifting World

The world has never been more confused, more divided, or more spiritually blind. Truth is mocked. Holiness is dismissed. Compromise is celebrated. But God has never changed.

A good Christian does not bow to culture — they bow to Christ.

Romans 12:2 commands us not to conform to this world but to be transformed by the renewal of our minds. That means:

  • You don’t follow the morality of the crowd.
  • You don’t bend Scripture to match your desires.
  • You don’t adapt Christianity to make it more comfortable.
  • You don’t apologize for believing what the Bible says.

A bold Christian stands firm when the culture shakes.

5. A Good Christian Lives a Life of Repentance and Renewal

Repentance is not a negative word. Repentance is freedom. Repentance is cleansing. Repentance is revival.
1 John 1:9 says:

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us.” - 1 John 1:9

A good Christian doesn’t hide sin - they bring it into the light.
They don’t cling to pride - they surrender it.
They don’t make excuses - they confess boldly and receive grace joyfully.

Repentance is not a one-time event. It’s a lifestyle. And every time you repent, you grow stronger, freer, and more like Jesus.

6. A Good Christian Loves Like Jesus Loved

Jesus said the world will know we belong to Him by our love (John 13:35). Not by talent. Not by knowledge. Not by style. By love.

But biblical love is not soft, weak, or passive. Biblical love is fierce, sacrificial, steady, and holy.

A good Christian:
  • Forgives quickly
  • Speaks truth with grace
  • Chooses kindness over anger
  • Serves without recognition
  • Encourages intentionally
  • Loves even when it costs

Love is the greatest mark of a bold believer.

7. A Good Christian Lives on Mission

You are not called to spiritual survival — you are called to spiritual impact. Jesus’ final command was very clear:

“Go and make disciples.” — Matthew 28:19

A good Christian doesn’t hide their faith — they live it publicly. Not obnoxiously. Not arrogantly. But courageously.

If Jesus has changed your life, tell people. Share your story. Invite someone to church. Pray for people on the spot. Serve intentionally.

Bold Christianity is contagious.

8. A Good Christian Perseveres Through Trials

God never promised an easy life. But He promised His presence.

Trials produce strength (James 1:2–4).
Suffering produces hope (Romans 5:3–5).
Weakness reveals God’s power (2 Corinthians 12:9).

A good Christian doesn’t crumble under pressure - they cling to Jesus with everything they have.

Storms don’t weaken a bold believer. They refine them.

A Bold Call to Rise Up

You were not saved to be lukewarm.
You were not called to be average.
You were not redeemed to blend in.

You were saved to shine. Called to stand. Empowered to live boldly.

If your heart is aimed at Jesus…
If your Bible is open…
If your knees are bent in prayer…
If your love is growing…
If your life is surrendered…

You are becoming exactly what God has called you to be - a bold, passionate, faithful follower of Jesus Christ.
