Do It Afraid: Why Believers Don’t Have to Let Fear Win
One of my favorite movies has a scene where a tremendous battle is about to begin and one of the characters reveals that he's afraid. He was no warrior and had certainly never faced a battle or an enemy like the one that he was about to come face to face with.
His friend and mentor in the movie, a seasoned warrior, simply said to him, “Fear profits a man little,” and the battle began. True words from a true warrior!
There are two kinds of fears we read of in the Bible. One is healthy and right, and that is the fear of the Lord. The other kind is the crippling, earthly fear that many people face in their daily lives that keeps them frozen in place. But what if I told you no matter what, that you are always in God’s hands, or that you would not die one second too soon or one second too late. Or that you will not die before you complete your mission on this earth that God has given you to do. Understand I am talking to believers here. But would it change the way you look at things or change the fear and doubts you may have?
I hope it will cause you to live with holy boldness on this earth with nothing to fear. The prophet said this in Isaiah 41:10, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Do not mishear me. I'm not saying you can do whatever you like and never come to harm. I'm talking as one who would talk to a person who lives and operates within the will of God. If you live outside the will of God, you probably do have reasons to be fearful. But when we walk with trust and obedience, we can walk in that holy boldness that I spoke of because we know that God is with us. And since that is true, who then can be against us, or whom then should you fear?
I admit a little fear is normal. It’s human nature. So going forward you may still have a little fear as you venture into wherever God leads. But that's OK, just do it afraid, and watch the fear melt away as you see that powerful righteous right hand of God guiding you and strengthening you as you go!
