Help! I am suffering from politicoitis....
Actually i made that word up. But I am suffering (as you may be), from the inundation of political diatribe from all sides every day, and from just about every news source available Regardless of where you may fall in the political spectrum, I am sure that you have noticed that there is a constant onslaught of outrage over every single issue from immigration to how big Donald Trump's hands are (No, really. I just read an article accusing him of having photos of his hands on Obama;s shoulder photo-shopped to make them appear bigger). The media is relentless in bringing negative information to us, twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week. And we suck it up....
I had a person with whom I was discussing tariffs on Mexico, bashing the new president over tariffs and the burden he was trying to put on America. I asked him if he actually new the definition of tariff and he said, no, not really. But he was angry about tariffs! He had allowed the news source to which he listens dictate how he thought and subscribed to their particular political twist on the issue.
I suggested that he listen to programs like Point of View radio or read periodicals such as World magazine to get a responsible take on current events. his response was, "Yeah, but you can't trust any of them." Amazingly my friend would rather stay with his news source that promoted no thought instead of tasking time to dig for the truth.
If you are feeling overwhelmed by all the political mumbo-jumbo coming down the pike, allow me to suggest to you two things. One, seek out responsible news agencies that will give you a fair and unbiased take (like the ones I mentioned), on current events. And two, ALWAYS remember that God is still in charge! He has not dropped the ball, nor has any politician snuck in behind his back. Continue to be the Church to this world in spite of the political madness bubbling in this country right now, and please think biblically, not politically. It will save you a lot of frustration and anger.
Being fed up with politics is one thing, letting it negatively affect you is another. keep your eyes on Jesus and haste the day of his coming. The politics of this world belong to the world, our citizenship is elsewhere.....
