I just realized that it has been since May that I have added anything here. Is it because I have nothing to say or is it because I have been so busy? Who knows, but I figured I better get on here and at least say hello!
I have been sitting at my desk for a while and it was starting to warm up. I would love to say I always break a sweat when writing sermons, but it is not so (but I do most times preaching them!) My assistant popped his head in the door and suggested that we might want to call an AC guy in because we started the air conditioner, but it was not cooling down. I checked the vents and thought it was trying to work, but the longer I sat there the temp never changed and I too started thinking about having to call the AC guy and of course wondering how much it would cost and hoping it would be fixed by Sunday and hoping we did not have to replace the system as we have talked about a few times lately. You know how the mind can just run away.
I walked back to the back of the church to get some water and popped my head into the mechanical room where the AC unit is and everything seemed to be running. I opened the fusebox and low and behold, the breakers for the condenser were off due to some electrical work that was done the other day! I switched them over and am now writing this with a cool breeze flowing in my office!
The sad part is I knew the electrical work was being done; I knew they had shut off the switch because they did it last time, and I know enough to check breakers anyway. But instead, i just decided to fret instead of thinking it through and checking everything i knew to check in the first place!
Often times we do this in our spiritual walk. Something happens and we listen to the lies of the enemy, or we start to worry and fret and all the time if we had just checked ourselves in areas that needed checking or do what we know we are supposed to do (like pray and trust God), we would save ourselves a lot of heartache. We know the truth of scripture and we know God's promises, but sometimes our nature causes us to panic instead of pray, or run when we should relax!
The next time this happens to you, just remember (and I am speaking to myself as well), to check what you know to do before you start worrying about things that you don't need to worry about in the first place. It will save you from sitting around sweating it out when you cool be as cool as a cucumber!
