My heart just aches for all that is going on around us. As I write this we are currently praying for the good folks of Manchester, England who are recovering from yet another terrorist attack by Islamist "radicals."
Please prayer for the city and the victims of this attack, and please pray for clarity and wisdom on what their next steps are to be. Europe has seen a number of these types of attacks, and even though they are consistently perpetrated by Islamist radicals, people still stand around and shrug their shoulders wondering what to do or who to blame. One can only wonder how long it will be before terror attacks are as common in our country as they are in the European Union,
There is an enemy out there and the enemy needs to be identified and dealt with. But how? The church often recites Jesus' teaching on loving your enemy and then refuses to deal with the matter at hand under the disguise of that love. The book of Hebrews speaks to the fiery judgment of God's enemies and how dreadful it will be for the enemies of God when he takes action against them.
What is the message for us as Christians? I know it says God will repay and avenge, but do we do anything in the meantime? Jesus says to love your enemy and at the same time God destroys the enemy. That leaves me wondering what we are to do in the face of the enemy. What actions do we take? What safeguards do we erect, if any?
Maybe in this blog I am just thinking out loud. This is one of the issues I wrestle with, and one I think the American church needs to discuss and hash out. This is not about being afraid, it is about standing up for what is right. Whatever the answer, to stand around stupefied and shrugging our shoulders and gazing at our bellybuttons, is not it.
The people of Manchester were attending an Ariana Grande concert. This kid had been quoted as saying she hated America and Americans, yet ran home (to America) when this went down, knowing she would be safe here. Meanwhile, her colleague, Katy Perry says the answer is more inclusion, and no borders or boundaries. And since many today allow pop stars, politician or taking heads of the medias to think for them, they are all standing around wondering what to do!
I would love your input on this, if you have the time.
